About the group

We are a group of local residents united by a shared commitment to protecting the integrity, beauty, and long-term sustainability of Wilson Botanical Park. For generations, this unique natural space has been a place for families, walkers, nature-lovers, and the wider Casey community to enjoy and we believe it deserves thoughtful, responsible planning that preserves its character for the future.

Our group formed in response to growing concerns about poor planning decisions proposed by Casey Council, decisions that we believe could negatively impact the park’s environment, visitor experience, and ecological value. We are not opposed to improvement or progress — but we strongly believe that any changes must be genuine enhancements, based on community consultation, environmental respect, and long-term vision.

Our Mission

  • To advocate for transparent, community-driven planning for Wilson Botanical Park

  • To ensure that development decisions prioritise the environmental, cultural, and recreational value of the gardens

  • To give residents a unified voice in Council discussions and planning processes

  • To protect the park so it remains a safe, natural, and welcoming place for everyone

What We Stand For

We stand for accountability, sustainable planning, and the belief that public spaces belong to the people who use and cherish them. Our aim is to work collaboratively, not against progress, but towards better planning outcomes that reflect the needs and values of our community.

Frequently Asked Questions

The council has proposed an "overflow" "temporary" "events" carpark at the top of Kramer drive, a narrow residential street resembling a court, where the park gate is situated, whilst ignoring their own masterplan and internal recommendations to not progress with this car park. Opening hours of the proposed carpark stretch to include event days and nights, weekends, weekdays, school holidays, public holidays, daylight saving hours - so it seems virtually all the time!

The council is ignoring the rate payers, locals and THEIR OWN ADVICE!

In recent community consultation a majority voted against the proposed car park site & 99% or local residents voted against it.

the council in their own evaluation stated "While the undersupply of car parking is an ongoing issue that will need to be resolved, progression of the current proposal will not be pursued"

So every one must ask the question, why are they progressing with the car park?

In developing this master plan, Council aims to:

• Effective management of the Park with a focus on collaboration, integration and

engagement.

• Recognise and celebrate the Park’s history and culture, including it’s change from

indigenous lands to farming to quarry to botanic gardens and parkland.

• Support the conservation and enhancement of natural parkland features and

landscapes.

• Enhance community use and visitor experience of the Park

• Provide an opportunity for the community to engage with the future of the Park.

• Implement principles of Universal Design, Environmentally Sustainable Design, Crime

Prevention Through Environmental Design, urban design, gender equity and the

impacts of climate change.

• Align with Council’s Community Vision to become a more connected, bold and

resilient community, and the strategic objectives of our Council Plan and

Organisational Strategy
